Robinhood Expands into Indonesia’s Thriving Crypto Market
Robinhood makes its Southeast Asian debut by acquiring licensed local operators in Indonesia, a market with 17 million cryptocurrency users. The move bypasses regulatory hurdles through existing infrastructure while positioning the platform to compete in one of Asia's fastest-growing retail trading sectors.
"This is a fast-growing market for trading," said Patrick Chan, Robinhood’s Head of Asia. The company leverages its acquisition strategy to immediately access Indonesia's 19 million capital market investors and crypto-savvy user base.
The deal includes a licensed brokerage and crypto-asset firm, providing Robinhood with instant regulatory compliance and customer networks. Observers note the timing aligns with Indonesia's crypto adoption surge, though local competitors like Pintu and Tokocrypto already dominate the space.
